Bitumen production and its process

Bitumen production process:

The steps of bitumen production are as follows. To produce bitumen, two processes are used, discontinuously and continuously

Discontinuous process Process Batch

In this process, the air tower is filled with a certain volume of feed and after blowing air with predetermined conditions (reaction temperature, time and amount of feed) and the product reaches the desired specifications, the tower is emptied and its contents are stored in tanks. they enter.

The main components of the air conditioning unit

In the continuous process, the main components of air conditioners are:

Heater Pre heater

Compressor or Blower

Tower Oxidizer

A system for collecting and burning vapors

Continuous process

In this process, the feed with a certain and controllable amount with a predetermined temperature continuously enters the aeration tower and after performing the aeration operation, it leaves the aeration tower under constant operational conditions.

Reduce polluting vapors. This bitumen method, which is used in refineries, is considered due to the following advantages.

Reduction of equipment and maintenance costs.

Reducing the thermal load of food preheaters. Increase in efficiency and amount of production per unit of time.

Reducing the air consumption and shortening the ventilation time due to the efficient use of blown air. Ease of operation, control and execution of the process due to its continuous nature.

It should be noted that ventilation is possible in horizontal and vertical towers, but vertical towers are preferred due to their higher efficiency.

Effective parameters in ventilation

In air conditioning, several parameters are important, the most important of which are:

feed viscosity

feed temperature

The geometric shape of the tower

During the aeration process with oxidation, air passes through the bitumen and its oxygen interacts with the bitumen molecules. The fumes from this process (Fumes Process) contain less than 10% oxygen and various compounds such as water vapor, aldehydes, ketones, Co, Co2, nitrogen oxides, methane, sulfur compounds (SO2, H2S) and finally "oily hydrocarbons" It is "petroleum".

These hydrocarbons leave the tower due to the strong flow of blown air, either in the form of steam or liquid along with the air (Entrainment), and part of them are stored in the next steps (Condense). These hydrocarbons are called "oils". Process" or (Oils Process) and the vapors of this air process (Fumes Process) are usually purified by a set of isolated devices to separate the accompanying oils (or later condensed) and then The vapors are burned.

The percentage of feed loss in the aeration process usually varies between (0.5-2.5%) by weight, this amount depends on several factors such as feed viscosity, temperature, aeration time, etc.
